Sonnet of Love

If English be the budding writers' choice
For nuance-shaded phrases so sublime,
In telling tales of wonder they rejoice
With rhythmic, rolling measured, easy rhyme.

But speak of love and e'en the seasoned bard
Will wail and rant and yea, may tear his hair,
There's just one hackneyed word for Man's regard,
For pets and burgers, icons ~ teddy bear.

"I love my dog ~ Madonna ~ Man United"
"I love my granny, father," and the rest
"I love to ramble, gamble, be excited"
My toddler loves to suck her ragged vest!

Yet though the writer writes reluctantly
We love to hear it spoken: "I love thee."
